Introducing Switch and Donate: the new face of Crowdfunding

Everyone knows the feeling - you’ve been asked to donate to a cause but you just can’t spare the money this month. Whether it’s your school’s fundraiser or a charitable cause, not having the funds to help can leave you feeling flat.

That feeling played on our minds and we knew there must be a way to raise funds that everyone can be a part of. And so Switch and Donate was born!

This brand new concept is so simple - you choose one of your utility bills, we’ll compare your current plan with the best on the market and if you choose to switch to a new provider a donation will be made on your behalf to your nominated cause!

It really is as good as it sounds. 

Donate money using your utility bill

It’s a great idea to regularly review your utility bills to make sure you’re getting the best deal, and now you can donate to charity at the same time, all without spending a cent. The bill you use is completely up to you; choose from electricity, gas, internet, phone and more. You can even choose to compare multiple bills at once to increase your donation amount.

How exactly does Switch and Donate work?

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3:

1. Switch…

Have your utility bill handy and click the Donate Now button on your chosen causes icause page. Through our trusted partner, CheapBills, we’ll find you the best deals on the market to compare and let you know if you could be making a saving on your plan. If you see a saving you like, just say the word! We’ll take care of everything and get you up and running with your new provider. 

And that’s when the magic happens…..

2. …and Donate

Those charitable folk at CheapBills are not only doing the hard work by finding you the best deal on your bill but once you have successfully switched to a new provider, 30% of the commission made on the switch will be donated to your cause. The amount donated depends on the utility you choose to switch - take a look at the table below to see how much will be donated for each bill you switch.

3. Make a difference

Without spending a single cent, you can donate between $45 and $300 and make a really big impact to the cause you’re supporting. 

Please note: donating your bill doesn’t mean you don’t pay your bill. Sorry, we don’t make the rules! You still need to pay your bills but know you’re making a real difference.

How much can I give with Switch and Donate?

It’s rule number one of fundraising: every little helps. The example below gives you a quick insight into how Switch and Donate can quickly lead to smashing some fundraising goals:

• Supporter #1 switches their electricity provider, and your fundraiser receives $51.
• Supporter #2 switches their gas and electricity, and your fundraiser receives $87.
• The word gets out and 100 supporters choose to switch their bills and your fundraiser reaches $8,751.

Remember, this is all without anyone spending a cent!  

The amount donated is different for each utility and it’s completely up to you whether you choose one, two or all of your bills to switch.

How do I fundraise using Switch and Donate

Using Switch and Donate to fundraise is automatically included as an option when you set up a fundraising campaign through icause, so you don’t need to take any extra steps to make it available to your supporters. 

To set up your campaign, click on the Start Fundraising button and you’ll be guided through a few easy steps to get your fundraiser live.

Once you’re up and running, you can use your campaign dashboard to share your campaign via email, SMS and on your social channels, so that your supporters can find you in one easy click. And now that they have the option to donate without spending any money, you’ll be able to reach your goals quicker than ever!
